كنت اعرف دائما انني سيكون لدي فروة رأس لامعة حيث ان فقدان الشعر صفة ورائية عندنا في العائلة و لكني لم اتوقع اني يحصل لي ذلك بهذه الشرعة حيث بدأ شعري يتساقط و انا في أوائل العشرينات.

شعرت ان شبابي سرق مني لكني كنت مترددا في القيام بأي شيء حيال ذلك. اخذت ابحث لعدة سنوات عن الخيارات المتاحة وانا ارى شعري يختفي ببطىء. اخيرا تشجعت و قررت ان اخضع لعملية زراعة الشعر بتقنية الاقتطاف على يد دكتور يقدم حل بسعر معقول جدا. لقد اخترت هذا الطريق بسبب رغبتي في عدم الحصول على الندبات الخطية التي تسببها عمليات زراعة الشعر التقليدية و عدم الرغبة بدفع الكثير من المال لأنه كان عاملا مقيدا لي.

في البداية، اعتقدت أنني قد اتخذت القرار الصحيح، ولكن تبددت كل الآمال بعد انا بدأت نتائج العملية تظهر. كان واضحا ان الشعر غير طبيعي و قد نمى بشكل عمودي على فروة رأسي و بكثاقة اقل بكثير من المتوقع. بالاضافة لذلك

فقد تركت الثقوب الكبيرة التي استخدمت لاستخراج خصلات الشعر بقع بيضاء في جميع انحاء المنطقة المانحة من فروة رأسي مزيلة بذلك امكانية حلق كل شيئ و الرجوع كما كنت. عشت حالة اكتئاب لمدة سنة كاملة وكانت تعليقات الناس حولي مؤلمة جدا لدرجة انني لم اعد اسمح لأحد ان يرى رأسي. من المؤكد ان استعادة الشعر كان مجرد اضغاث احلام لشحص لا يعرف الحقيقة , عدت الى الانترنت لاتأكد ان كان يوجد حالات مماثلة لحالتي عدها اكتشفت الدكتور عمر.

With hair loss a genetic inevitability in my family, I always knew that I was cursed to have a shiny scalp, but I never imagined it would happen so soon.  I first began to notice my hair loss in my very early twenties and in a matter of only a few years, I rapidly progressed to a Norwood 3 with diffuse thinning.  I felt like I had been robbed of my youth, but was hesitant to do anything about it.  For several more years I researched the various options and watched my hair slowly disappear.  After finally getting up the courage, I committed to getting a FUE hair transplant by a doctor offering a very affordable solution.  I chose this route because of my desire to not have the linear scar left by traditional transplants and the fact that money was a limiting factor. In the beginning, I thought I had made the right decision, but hopes dased as the result of this procedure began to make itself evident.  My hair appeared very pluggy and unnatural. 

The transplanted hairs stood at angles perpendicular to my scalp and at a density far below what I had expected.  In addition to that, the very large punches used in extraction of the individual follicles left large white dots checkered throughout the donor region of my scalp, removing the possibility of just cutting my losses and shaving everything off.  I became depressed and lived under a hat for a year.  The casual comments from people I had grown used to over the years about my receding hair became painful stabs as to the fact that I would never let anyone see my head.  Certain that hair restoration was just a pipe dream to those that did not understand the realities, I returned to the online hair loss community to ensure that others did not share the same fate as mine.  That is when I discovered Dr. Umar.

Is it ok for women to use 5% Rogaine to restore hair?

Minoxidil  5% is generally recommended for use by men, while the 2% concentration is considered safe for males and females. The pharmaceutical companies who manufacture the drug (e.g. Pfizer, the makers of Rogaine)  have not yet received FDA approval for allowing women to use the 5% version.  However, there have been small clinical trial studies which show that the 5% concentration is significantly more effective compared to the 2% product in women. While it is probably not safe for women to simply purchase Minoxidil 5% at the nearest drug store and apply it for their hair loss needs, the medication can be used with far less risk, if it approved by a doctor.  In fact there are dermatologists who do prescribe 5% and continuously monitor the patient for effectiveness and safety purposes. 

Derm Hair Clinic At the 20th Annual ISHRS Conference in Alaska

The ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) is a worldwide organization of hair restoration specialists and physicians who treat hair loss. The society is dedicated to advancing knowledge among medical hair restoration practitioners. There are over a 1000 members representing a span of about sixty nations. Dr. Umar was recently invited to speak about body hair transplantation at a 20th Annual ISHRS conference in Alaska. Derm Hair Clinic team members also attended. Here are photos from the event.

Halloween 2013 at Dermhair Clinic

One of the best parts about Halloween is getting dressed up. This year, the office at Derm Hair Clinic picked a safari theme for our costume party. Dr. Umar chose an Indiana Jones styled attire. He was accompanied by his faithful friend, Zeus, who also donned his finest Halloween garb as the only canine. A mountain lion, panther and cheetahs representing the feline animal kingdom also joined the adventure as well as a lone zebra.

Rumble In The Mud

At Derm Hair Clinic, we foster a work culture that is dedicated to excellent service and patient care. But also, we like to enjoy life and participate in opportunities to give back and be a positive force in the community. On September 14, 2013, we participated in Mud Run II, which was held in Acton, near the Antelope Valley. This is an event series sponsored by the Wounded Warrior’s Project. And it is organized by a father and son team, Ted and Kyle Guilmette (who served in Afghanistan) The Wounded Warrior’s Project is a non profit that provides events, programs and resources to veterans who were wounded in military engagements following 9/11. The organization is dedicated to economically empowering former soldiers and helping them adjust back to civilian life.

The 5K Mud Run that we were involved in consisted of:

• 80 foot water slide
• 26 obstacles
• An A-frame chain link climb
• 40 foot plank walk

Although it was 99 degrees, there was a lot of water and mud to balance out the heat and help the group of200 participants cool down. Ted Guilmette and Mike Minton, a senior master sergeant came up with the concept for the Mud Run, which has now become a regular event. According to Minton, “One of the things Wounded Warrior does is take people with missing legs and arms and gets them back out there doing running….To go from being injured on the battle field to being able to compete again with prosthetics helps guys feel like they’re back in the community.”
